Types of Dog Breeds
Good dog breeders are usually dedicated enthusiasts of a particular breed, their only aim in producing a litter being to improve and better their breed in terms of temperament, health and conformation. This is achieved by selecting only the best, most suitable male (stud dog) to mate with the most suitable female of that particular breed. However, it’s not as simple as it may sound and all breeders are not equal. The Standard
For the most part, the ideal breed type is defined in the breed standard, a written list of attributes that defines the breed and separates the breed from other breeds based on the same ancestral type. The standard leaves room for interpretation; breeders may choose to select for emphasis some aspects of breed type over others, and, if conformation judges agree with that selection, the breed will change over time.[5]
Each element of the standard is considered both independently and part of the whole of breed type. In writing about the Borzoi, Jon Titus Steel says, “The neck is a key element of breed type”, affecting a dog’s outline, balance, movement, and function.

The miscellaneous class is for dogs that are working towards AKC recogntion. A breed first must be enrolled in the Foundation Stock Service, must have a parent club, and have a signigant number of registerable dogs. While in the miscellaneous class(typical a period of 1-5 years) the owners/ breeders of the breed prove that they are ready for full AKC recognition. After a period of time the AKC evalutes the breed and discusses with the parent club wether they want full recognition. When a breed is fully recognized it is moved to its appropriate group (see those above). This class is composed of nine specialty breeds, including the Dogue de Bordeaux , Norewegian Buhund, Pyrenean Shepherd, and Redbone Coonhound.
