Smooth Fox Terrier Dog Breed
The Smooth Fox Terrier is a very elegant, smart and stylish little dog dressed in a short white coat with black or brown markings. The breed has a flat, tapering, narrow skull, and ears that fold forward making “V” shaped flaps. The tail is normally docked to 1/4 its length and stands on top of the dog rather than hanging out behind.
Smooth fox terriers are cute dogs that are predominantly white in color with markings of tan and black. These dogs are rigid with distinctive heads. The coat has fine hairs that are smooth and consistent. The fine coat has earned the name smooth fox terrier for these dogs. This breed of dogs is extremely adaptable to your family. You can train them easily and they listen to your commands. If proper attention is paid, these dogs are highly friendly. These dogs are family pets.
General Appearance
The dog must present a generally gay, lively and active appearance; bone and strength in a small compass are essentials; but this must not be taken to mean that a Smooth Fox Terriershould be cloddy, or in any way coarse–speed and endurance must be looked to as well as power, and the symmetry of the Foxhound taken as a model. The Terrier, like the Hound, must on no account be leggy, nor must he be too short in the leg. He should stand like a cleverly made hunter, covering a lot of ground, yet with a short back, as stated below.
Temperament:
This energetic fun loving dog is affectionate and playful. Smooth Fox Terriers are scrappy and impulsive and have been known to bite, so should be watched around children. Smooth Fox Terriers are courageous and devoted and make excellent watchdogs, though have been known to bark excessively. Smooth Fox Terriers like to explore so should be kept in a safe enclosed area, and will sometimes even kill birds or small animals if given the chance.
The Smooth Fox Terrier is a balanced, well-proportioned terrier with a distinctive head that has a tapering muzzle, fiery dark eyes, and folded v-shaped ears set well up on the head, but not prick. It is a sturdy dog in that it is well-muscled and exhibits endurance, but should not appear in any way coarse or cloddy. The male Fox terrier is tame but it will also respond to your commands. Shoulder height of a male Smooth Fox Terrier should be no taller than 17.5 inches with females proportionally less, and a male in show condition should weigh approximately 18 lbs.
