Different dog breeds - Breeds of Dog

Many people choose a specific different dog breeds because they like the physical characteristics of that particular type of dog. Obviously a person who likes size and strength of a German Shepherd will not really be inclined to adopt a small Chihuahua or any other type of lap dog. In the same fashion, a woman who wants a simple companion to take care of and even go on flights with her across the country would not choose a German shepherd or any other dog breed that is generally rather large. Remember that each dog breed is different. Some dog breeds require lots of time that you will have to dedicate to groom and to exercise. Some dog breeds require little or no exercise but other dog breeds may require a walk three times every day. Please make sure you are making the right decision when you choose which dog breed is right for you.

Different dog breeds

Herding Dogs

Herding Dogs- Breeds, which come under this class, include the English Sheepdog, Welsh Corgi, Collie, Border Collie, German Shepherd, and the Schnauzer. These breeds generally have a moderate to high energy level and are therefore suited to a variety of exercises. Almost any games and sports are good for the dogs, especially runs, walks and challenging hikes.

Selective Breeding

In addition to these locale differences, many of the breeds we see today have been developed through selective breeding programs. Many of them were bred with the goal of certain qualities for specific jobs. Dogs have been used throughout history for herding livestock, pulling loads, guarding property, helping with the hunt, and getting rid of vermin.Bulldogs, with their muscular bodies and wide mouths were favored for handling large livestock. The tightly curled coat of a Poodle tends to be somewhat water resistant and aided them in retrieving fowl in the cold waters of Germany. The pendulous ears and wrinkles of a Bloodhound help ‘scoop up’ the scents they track. Even the Beagle and Basset Hound were bred for the white tip on the tail, a seemingly trivial characteristic, so they could be more easily followed through tall grasses in the hunt.

SmoothHaired Breeds

Smoothhaired breeds require even less, in so far as trimming is involved. Usually breeds such as pointers and hounds bound for the show ring will be spotlessly clean and have sleekly trimmed whiskers and feet, which always present a tidy but closely natural look. Very little, if any thing is removed from the back, underside, thighs, etc. Again, simply a tidy-up to perfect the outline. The majority of my customers own crossbred dogs and often I will be requested to create a grooming miracle by transforming a multipoo into a terrier or a some other breed facsimile with the wrong coat texture for the job that makes it impossible.

Guardian Dogs

Guardian Dogs- These include breeds of dog like the Bullmastiff, Great Dane, Great Pyrenee, Doberman Pinscher and the Rottweiler. These are strong dogs that can be quite active, however behaviorally they tend to start taking the play quite seriously, which could be problematic. It is therefore recommended that these dogs should be given exercise in the form of runs and obstacle courses but within limits.
